Cadiz, in the sunny and warm south of Spain, is just steeped in history. Known to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Western World, its origins go back over 3000 years to 1100 B.C. ! Cadiz is a wonderful, vibrant city in the south of Spain with a population of about 300,000. It is known as the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Western World and is full of history. The school is located right in heart of Cadiz and only 50 meters from the sea with a short walk to the surf. There is a modern centre with about half the population, and then you travel through the high historical city walls into the old city. It is like stepping back in time. This is the real Spain. Still relatively untouched by tourism, you can just feel Spanish culture and history oozing from the narrow streets, and many hundred year old houses. Our school is located right in the heart of old historic Cadiz, and only 50 metres from the sea, and a short walk from the surfing beach. In fact 'old Cadiz' is almost completely surrounded by the sea. It is almost like the 3000 years of history and the influence of the sea has not changed. Every Calle seems to finish at the sea, or overlooking one of the magnificent Castillos (Castles) that dominate Cadiz. If you want to experience the real Spain, away from the mass tourism of the Costa de Sol, Cadiz is the right location from you. The other bonus of Cadiz is that surf safaris trips are often run to both Portugal and Morocco. In fact Morocco is only three hours away! This is a great surf location. The waves are best in October to May. There are plenty of surf beaches for all levels. Playa Victoria is the biggest beach of Cadiz, and it's located on the newer part of the city. The best surf spot is just at the beginning of the beach, on the street out of the old town, there are also surf shop located near to the beach, for ding repair, equipment or board rentals. Most of the surfers there are locals, and on sunny days the beach can become pretty busy, but normally there is a regular crowd. Barbate - A really nice break at the end of the river. It doesn't get big very often, when there is a good swell running and it does start breaking it's a high quality break. The winds often mess up the spot. Bolinia - The length of ride is usually short,, but in good days it can be 75-100m. Exceptionally little more. The discover of Bolonia spot was A.Simino, who introduce us to the wonderful world of surf. There is other little spot in this beach that we named di Simino in gratitude. If you are just in the little village looking to the see, the spot Bolonia is in front of you and to your left. "Di Simino" Spot is in front of amphitheater of Baelo Claudia Romans Ruins (to the west). At the end of autumn, in winter and at the beginning of spring wave size can be 3'-6' some days, exceptionally more. But usually 2'-4'. Be careful with strong sudden sea currents. Look winds reports, usually it blows very strong here ( A paradise for wind and kite-surfers) El Palmer - A good beach break, that can be fast, and have good tube section, tends to be better in the winter time. When it's good it will be crowded here. Los Canos de Meca - Nice point break that needs a bit of a swell to start breaking properly, when it does it's one of the best lefts in this area, Don't bother with the right waves, they are poor quality.
