Frequently Asked Questions
How
Safe is it in El Salvador?
Concerns are often raised about safety in El Salvador. El Salvador is a
stable democracy. Its people are among the most welcoming and
friendliest in Central or South America, and overall El Salvador is a
beautiful and magical country with much to offer those who travel to its
shores. Some rumors & abound which paint a much sketchier picture of
EL Salvador than the reality. Much of this information is outdated. Such
rumors and exaggerations have largely kept the crowds away and led to
tourism booms in other countries such as Costa Rica. This is okay because it
has left El Salvador’s sights & waves largely overlooked and uncrowded!
How serious
are you at providing Spanish?
This question is often asked because we provide Surf lessons! The reality is
that all our teachers are trained and qualified teachers of Spanish and this
is what they are dedicated to. The surfing is an extra. We were blessed to
be located by some of the best breaks around - so its a natural progression.
However, we are first and foremost a Spanish school!
What
other courses do you offer?
We have Spanish courses, Spanish and culture, and long term semester
programs. Have a look at our programs and prices page for more details
Can I get
University Credits?
College credit is generally available through your home University. We
issue grade transcripts and written evaluations and have had students from
UC Davis, SUNY Stonybrook, and other universities
What
else can you do here?
El Salvador is a fantastic country - still raw and undeveloped. There is
everything from ancient civilization ruins to magnificent rainforests,
diving and exploring. What you read about in other Central American
countries is here - the difference here it is real and untarnished by mass
tourism!
What
type of students does your school have?
They come in all shapes, sizes
and ages! Typically because El Salvador is undeveloped the students are a
little more self sufficient and often a little more mature. However, we have
also had everyone from High School groups to Grandmothers!
How good is
the surf?
Well global surfers ranked our
local beach a 9 out of 10! It that damn good. The waves are generally big
and powerful, so it does attract the intermediate and advanced surfers more
- but we also do have lots of breaks that are equally suit first timers and
beginners
Do I need to bring my board
etc.?
If you have one, its always
best to have your own board under your feet. If you don't, we have good
beards that you can rent at very reasonable rates. You don't need a wetsuit
here! The water is WARM all year round.
How big is your school?
Its a
small school with.
The most we have is about 20
students at any one time. At la Libertad it is normally one on one lessons.
